Today we visited Santa in his grotto at the Museum of London, near the Barbican.
The museum is very friendly and welcoming for families and we quickly found our way to the Victorian Arcade where the grotto is. We were asked to wait by one of Santa's helpers - a 'big man in a hat' according to Sam. It was, of course, a normal sized man in a big hat, but the difference is subtle.
After a few minutes we were ushered into the grotto where Angela and Sam sat next to Santa himself! Santa looked through his Big Book for Sam's name and yes, Sam was listed in the list of boys and girls who have been good this year. Sam was very relieved! Santa then asked Sam what one thing he would like to get for Christmas. We expected Sam to reply 'bassoon or French horn' as he has been doing for the last few weeks, but no, after a couple of seconds, he pipes up 'an iPod!'. Well, I was shocked but not surprised. I think that he changed his request because he thought that Santa was capable of actually delivering, whereas we either could not (bassoon or French horn) or would not (iPod). This does mean, I think, that Sam believes in Santa Claus!
