First we went to Stockport to pick up Grandma and Grandad and an enormous car to carry us all. A Vauxhall Insignia estate, I believe. Whatever it was it was vast and was able to carry the five of us all plus all of our worldly goods.
Upon arrival at our holiday apartment, we set about discovering the pleasant little town of Beaumaris. There is a castle, an old courthouse (1614) and even a gaol but we didn't visit any of those. There was a playground in the castle grounds which Sam was very keen to visit every day.
The most striking thing about Beaumaris, however, is the fabulous view of Snowdonia which lies just across the Menai Straits. The clouds hang over the peaks and predict the weather over Beaumaris half an hour in advance.

In Beaumaris there are plenty of places to have tea and cake. There are also plenty of retired ladies and gentlemen who require watering and feeding on a regular basis. We tried one or two places and the Neptune chippy, all of which were good. All in all Beaumaris is a lovely place to be if you like to take it easy and do not-a-lot with a gorgeous backdrop to admire.

On the third day of our holiday, we went to Anglesey Sea Zoo. A bit of a mouthful, but actually a pretty good aquarium. After the horror of the London Aquarium, this was a very nice surprise. Not as big, but we had the time and space to take in the exhibits properly and enjoy the experience.
Outside the aquarium is a jolly little playground and Sam really enjoyed playing the crazy golf (he was the ball) and trying out the slide and pirate ship and all sorts of other sea-related play aparatus. I think Sam would be very happy to go back there. The playground, I mean....

On the fourth day we drove to another resort town on Anglesey call Rhosneigr. There was a great beach and it seemed to be a bit of a surfer resort. The town was not busy so I imagine it is not high season for surfer dudes yet, but the town will be overrun with sandy-haired, cracked-lipped, befreckled youngsters very soon, I am sure. We found a pancake eatery and gorged on buckwheat pancakes. Delicious. Grandma had nine (well, almost)! We then saw the red arrows practising in a formation of nine planes. Probably a coincidence...
